There are several places to find information on the topic of dyslexia. You mentioned background information, so I'd start with Gale Virtual Reference Library (linked below). It has specialized encyclopedia and handbooks written for a college audience so that would be your first step. Just search for "dyslexia" to find and browse through items. You'll see on the right hand side of your search results that you can narrow your results to a specific type of source such as general topic overviews or in-depth disease/disorder sources.

For scholarly articles, I think the education database Education Research Complete would work well. Educators and researchers are very interested in assisting students who suffer from this disorder and research in this area would be found in that database. It's also linked below. You'll find a LOT of hits so consider limiting your search by adding another keyword with and (example: dyslexia and identification) and using the limiter options on the right hand side of your results list.
