Although tools like ChatGPT may produce what on the surface appear to be credible references, they cannot accurately cite their own sources.  Any references produced are likely to be fabricated as they are based on Large Language Models that do not currently have the ability to match relevant references or sources to a given topic.  This means that any references suggested by these tools are likely to be wrong, false or non-existent.

Before using any references suggested by ChatGPT, you should see if you can find the source in an internet search, Discover or Google Scholar to see if it actually exists.  If you can locate the source, you should then check it for accuracy before using it in your work.
